Step by step installation
- Open the front hood Gently lift up the hinged engine hood at the front of the model. No body shell removal needed. The electronics bay is exposed right away.
- Prepare the battery strap Inside the engine compartment there is an elastic hook and loop (velcro) securing strap for the battery. Loosen the strap.
- Place the Li Po battery Lay the battery flat inside the engine bay battery cavity. Make sure the battery sits level, no squeezing against wires or plastic parts.
- Connect the power plug Plug the battery��s XT60 connector firmly into the ESC XT60 socket.
Double check the plug orientation! Never force it; reversed power will destroy the ESC instantly.
- Secure battery with velcro strap Fasten the elastic velcro strap tightly to stop the battery sliding when off roading. Keep wires neat, avoid pinching cables between hood and chassis when closing.
- Close the hood Carefully lower and latch the front hood. Do not trap any battery wires when shutting.
- Power on sequence After hood is closed, turn on the transmitter first, then flip the car��s on switch inside the engine bay.
Important Li Po safety notes
- Never charge Li Po while battery stays inside the vehicle; remove it for charging.
- Always charge inside a Li po safe fire resistant bag.
- Stop running immediately if battery or ESC gets hot.
- After driving, let the battery cool fully before re charging.
- Do NOT use 3S (11.1 V) battery for this stock ESC. It will fry the speed controller and motor.
Extra tip
If you want longer runtime, pick a 5000 mAh 2S hard case LiPo with XT60; soft case packs also work but need extra care to avoid punctures on rough trails.

Can I use a different type of battery for the FMS 1:6 JIMNY RS
Hard rule for the stock ESC: maximum safe voltage is 7.4 V (2 cell)FMS Hobby DO NOT use 3S (11.1 V) Li Po �� it will burn out your ESC and brushed 550 motor immediately.
Alternative battery types that work (same voltage range)
1. Li Fe (2 cell Li Iron, 6.6 7.2 V)
- Good option if you want less fire risk than Li Po.
- Must have XT60 connector.
- Keep capacity 4000 5000 mAh, check physical size fits the engine bay battery cavity under the hood.
- Top speed will be slightly lower than 2S Li Po.
2. NiMH (6 cell, 7.2 V)
- Classic nickel metal hydride battery.
- Pros: very safe, no special balance charger required.
- Cons: heavier, lower runtime, slower crawling speed. Most NiMH packs come with Tamiya plugs. You will need an adapter cable to XT60 to plug into the car. Make sure the battery physically fits the compartment.
3. Other 2S 7.4V Li Po (different capacity)
You are not limited to exactly 4400 5000 mAh.
- Min: ~3000 mAh; Max: try not to go above 5200 mAh (bigger packs will not fit under the hood, may jam the hood shut).
- Both soft case and hard case 2S XT60 Li Po work. Hard case is better for rough off road.
Batteries you MUST avoid
- 3S Li Po (11.1 V): definitely forbidden for stock electronics.
- Any battery over 8 V nominal voltage.
- Large, oversized battery that forces the hood upward (can pinch wires and damage wiring).
Important connector note
The car��s ESC socket is XT60. If your alternative battery has a different plug (Tamiya, Deans/T plug), you need a proper adapter cable. Do not solder directly on car unless you know how to do RC wiring safely.
Quick fit check tip
After installing any new battery, before closing the hood: Make sure the velcro strap holds it firmly, no wires get pinched when you shut the front bonnet.

- 2S 4500 5000 mAh 30C hard case. Budget friendly hobby battery. Popular among crawler owners.
- Ovonic
- 2S 4500mAh 5000mAh 30C hard case. Good value option for casual off road crawling.
What to avoid when shopping
- Cheap unbranded no name soft case high capacity packs (often oversized; higher swelling risk).
- Any 3S (11.1 V) battery �� will destroy the stock ESC & 550 brushed motor.
- Batteries thicker than 31 mm: the hood cannot fully latch.
